The mascot was created and designed by Iris, a London-based creative agency. Wenlock and Mandeville are two animated blobs of steel from the Bolton steel mill. According to legend, Wenlock and Mandeville were formed from drops from the smelting of the last beams of the Olympic Stadium. The polished steel that is their skin allows them to reflect the personality and performance of the people they meet. One eye of the mascots symbolizes a camera lens, and the yellow lights on their heads symbolize a London taxi. The name Wenlock comes from the town of Much Wenlock in the English county of Shropshire, where the Wenlock Olympic Annual Games Society held its first Olympic Games in 1850, which in Britain is considered the inspiration for the modern Olympic Games. Wenlock wears five friendship bracelets on her wrists, each bracelet the color of an Olympic ring (yellow and blue on the right hand, black, green and red on the left, counting from the shoulder). Three pommel on the head symbolize the three places on the podium. The drawing on the body with the logo of the game symbolizes the whole world that came to London in 2012.
