This lovely Belleek vase has been made in the form of a figural horned owl perched atop a plinth designed to look like a dimensional log. The owl's eyes and wings have been finished in a soft yellow glaze, while the bird's body and the log it stands upon are cream colored. The log has a naturalistic appearance and is studded with ivy leaves which are also finished in butter yellow glaze. The owl's wings and the feathers on its body are quite detailed and give the piece visual interest when seen from different angles. The owl's face was also modeled with a great deal of textural detail, particularly its piercing eyes. Ireland's oldest pottery, Belleek, traces its history to 1857 when the company was established in the village of Belleek, County Fermanagh. Belleek is known for the unique characteristics of its high quality porcelain. The walls of the company's fine porcelain pieces are unusually thin and appear translucent when viewed in bright light, and are finished in a pearly iridescent glaze which is also very distinctive. The vase weighs 12.2oz and is in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. It stands 8.5" tall and the base is 3.75" wide. The mouth of the vase is approximately 2" in diameter. The glazed foot bears the First Gold or Seventh Mark dating the piece between 1980 - 1993. This vintage owl vase displays beautifully and looks great filled with flowers or showcased on its own.
